Intentional Shopping with Sustainable Fashion
This year it has been a goal of mine to be more intentional with my shopping. Since I have been an avid fashion lover all my life I have often been played by big business. In the past, I have found myself caught up in fast trends that caused me to lose my personal style identity. I think we have all fallen victim to buying clothes and then only wearing them once.
I started getting tired of having a closet full of items that I no longer wanted to wear. Dropping off big bags of clothes at Goodwill became too much of a habit every season. I wanted to figure out a better way to eliminate my fashion waste. I have been trying to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle in all aspects of my life and I no longer wanted to contribute to the second most wasteful industry. So I decided that it was time to dive deep into sustainable fashion.

How to Find Sustanable Clothing
Some of the biggest things to look for when shopping at a sustainable brand is to make sure they are creating clothing with natural materials that are bio-degradable aka not made of plastic. Avoiding animal-based materials is a great way to reduce your impact as well. But I have found this area to be the most challenging especially when it comes to buying good quality shoes.
Slow fashion is also a key phrase to look for when you are researching new sustainable brands. Slow fashion brands care about creating garments that are custom ordered because then they don’t have designs that are thrown out when they are not sold to the consumer. There are many creative artisans out there that care about changing how fashion impacts the environment. The key to shopping more sustainably is finding brands that hit all the marks for ethical and environmental business practices.

Buying clothing made out of hemp gives me peace of mind. I have been learning a lot more about this wonder plant and the millions of ways to use it . Hemp does not require nearly as much water as cotton. I will go into this material more on another blog post. It is important to start supporting the hemp industry in any way that we can. Starting with adding it to our wardrobe. Everyone needs a go-to brand for basics like t-shirts. If we choose to buy a hemp t-shirt rather than a conventional cotton t-shirt then we will be able to start healing the planet. With one simple
