How to Become A Sustainable Consumer
There are a lot of things we have to consider when approaching fashion in a sustainable way. It is not all black and white. Buying from sustainable brands helps but it is not the solution. The best way to reduce your impact is to consume less. However, this reality is hard to accept especially in a country that is built on consumerism. If we want to change our habits we have to enforce change ourselves. Our government does not care about building a sustainable future, it is up to us, every individual to care enough to change. I think that we must all face the fact that our system is broken and the best way we can act is with our dollar. At least that is a start.

Buy More Hemp
One way I am voting with my dollar is by buying more hemp. Since our government has restricted the use of hemp for 77 years we have to now start educating ourselves on why that happened and how we can start using this miracle plant to build a more sustainable world. Buying more hemp and less cotton is a good place to start. It is a much more durable fabric and is more hypoallergenic. I will talk more about the history of hemp and how it is grown and produced as a fabric and other resources in another blog post soon.

Jungmaven Tees
Jungmaven is changing the world one tee shirt at a time. Choosing hemp over “conventional” cotton benefits all of us in many ways. And it restores balance to our planet. Compared to cotton, hemp requires very little water. Hemp farmers also say it is a very easy plant to grow. It does not require irrigation, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds. Hemp is a phytoremediation plant. Meaning it has the power to clean the air, water, and soil. Hemp can also be used as a replacement for many resources such as paper and fuel. There are 25,000+ different uses and we aren’t even talking about CBD yet.

The Jungmaven Mission
In 2010, Rob launched HEMP 2020, a campaign to raise awareness around the positive environmental impacts of hemp farming. He sees hemp’s potential to mitigate climate change as one of the greatest opportunities of our generation.

After learning more about what this wonder plant can do, the founder of Jungmaven, Rob Jungmaven had a goal to make hemp more accessible for everyone. Rob figured everyone needs a tee shirt. He has been on a mission to enlighten the world one tee shirt at a time.

Time to Join the Hemp Revolution
I stumbled upon Jungmaven after looking for hemp clothing alternatives. I will admit that these t-shirts are pretty pricey but once I think about their environmental impact it is worth it. Since the United States is still learning to grow hemp after a stolen 77 years it will take the farmers some time to learn how to grow it for the increasing demand. So I imagine Jungmaven is importing their hemp from Canada or China which makes hemp more expensive than it needs to be. Also most of their clothes are still mixed with organic cotton. But after sometime when the demand sky rockets, hemp will become the modern day gold rush. And with enough of us buying hemp products we could irradicate our climate crisis. With one plant.

What are your thoughts on hemp now? Are you ready to be part of the hemp movement?
