Natural Beauty 101
On this blog post, I will be sharing my favorite natural beauty brand RMS Beauty. They are the first brand of makeup that I obsess over because the natural quality goes beyond any other brand and every product I have tried I have loved. I have always had acne-prone skin. Ever since I hit puberty I have been battling pesky breakouts. I used Mary Kay for a few years but then started having the worst rashes and breakouts I have ever experienced. I was desperate for relief and started researching a new skincare line to try. This brought me down the rabbit hole to find natural beauty products and essential oils. I have become more and more conscious of what I eat and also what I put on my skin.
What Is Skin Anyway??
The skin is the largest organ on the body, it will show you signs of internal and external stresses. If you don’t stay conscious and make a change when you see these signs of stress then you will continue to see skin problems build up and get worse over time. Typical makeup and skincare companies we are prone to use because we can access them easily at the grocery store or beauty stores like Ulta and Sephora are filled with hazardous chemicals that can create havoc in the body and cause serious damage. Three of the key components to avoid whenever possible are parabens, sulfates, and silicons. These chemical compounds have hundreds of different names and can be found in 85% of beauty products.
So what is a paraben?
A paraben is a cheap preservative used in moisturizers, deodorant, shampoos, conditioners, baby products and more. It has been found that these can disrupt hormone function, can cause infertility, early puberty, early menopause, and has been linked to some cases of breast cancer. It is highly suggested to try to use products with small amounts wherever possible.
What is a sulfate?
A sulfate is used as a foaming agent that makes us think we have cleaned our skin. However, Sulfates are aggressive. They strip away essential oils and vital moisture that the skin and scalp need in order to stay protected from microbes, allergens, and environmental pollutants. It has been found that sulfates can cause organ toxicity, reproductive defects, neurotoxicity, biochemical changes and endocrine disruption.
What is a silicone?
Silicones are used in products for added silky, luxurious texture that temporarily fill in crevices that make your skin feel smoother, creating a temporary surface effect and seal over the skin. Now, do you see the problem? Silicones trap in the dirt, sweat, sebum, bacteria and other various debris causing those pesky pimples. So put down that setting spray! All of us suffering from acne need to look at the labels and research the ingredients if we want a fighting chance against breakouts.
What is even worse is the silicone glued to your face will prevent any other moisturizer to penetrate your skin leaving dehydrated, dull skin and an unbalanced regulatory process that is essential for your skin to naturally shed dead skin cells. If your skin is unable to shed the skin cells this causes more long-term skin issues like pigmentation, redness, fine lines and scarring. Now, are you seeing the problem? It is time to start your journey to clean beauty products and I am here to help.
My saving glory when it comes to makeup is RMS Beauty. The founder of RMS Beauty, Rose-Marie, is an advocate for providing beauty free of chemicals. Her beauty line is organic, raw ingredients that have healing powers that nourish the skin and help to keep it looking younger longer. But her process for raw ingredients goes even deeper than most natural brand cosmetics. Most ingredients in other natural products go through processes that refine, bleach, deodorize, clarify, fractionated and heat them to a higher temperature completely stripping away any benefits for your skin. RMS beauty keeps ingredients in their purest form that work in synergy with the skin which helps promote hydration, softness, and luminosity.
The one product that you need to try now is the RMS “Un” Cover-Up. This was the first foundation I tried when ditching other toxic brands and I have gradually added more of RMS products to my beauty routine over time. I have never found a cover-up that matches my fair skin tone so perfectly. Other foundations I have tried have either been too white or too yellow/orange. This color blends with my tone creating a light coverage that is breathable. It can be used as a concealer in areas that need extra coverage, however, I use it to cover my entire face.
Other RMS Products I love:
Next, I will add a tiny bit of tinted “un” powder to set the foundation to leave my skin with more of a matte finish.
Most days I will add a touch of mascara and be done. I like leaving my makeup simple, allowing natural beauty to be the main focal point for my beauty routine.
Whenever I want to add a little more color to my cheeks or lips I use the coral shade Paradise. This is a fun shade that is so nice to use for multiple purposes. The mixture also is hydrating for the skin and lips. I love adding a little bit to my lips when they are feeling dehydrated from the cold air. The RMS Lip2Cheek line is complete with 9 other colors that I cannot wait to try. Each one helps individualize a color palette that can be used for any skin type.
When I add I eyeliner to my beauty look I feel a little more glam. I especially like to use it if I am going out for a special occasion. The brightening brush is a great tool to apply the cake liner along my top lid for a swift, and dramatic cat-eye. I love this liner because it is easy to apply and I can easily create a smooth line. I usually set the line with a light layer of powder so it doesn’t smudge from the oil on my eyelids.
As you can see the main trusted brand that I primarily use for all things make-up is RMS Beauty. I hope this post helps get you started to make the switch for natural beauty. I have become very passionate about this subject and I will be sharing more of my favorite natural products in future blog posts. My next beauty post will be about the new natural skincare line that I am obsessed with so stay tuned for more tips to help you along on your natural beauty journey.
